National Chocolate Cake Day ....................................
When is Chocolate Cake Day celebrated?
National Chocolate Cake Day is celebrated - January 27

What is this Holiday for?
To honor and enjoy chocolate cake! That's right chocolate cake has it's own day and man are we glad! It may be a little known holiday but what a great Food Holiday it is. On this day we bake chocolate cakes and invite our friends and family to enjoy in a slice of chocolate goodness.

What Type of Holiday is this?
Chocolate Cake Day is a National Holiday which is in the category of a "Food Holiday."

Everybody loves Chocolate Cake:
In fact it's the #1 cake choice among all the different flavors of cake recipes out there. Chocolate Cake is asked for and served in homes and restaurants more than any other flavor cake. Chocolate cake is a common dessert cake served at many gatherings such as birthday parties and weddings.

There are many different types of chocolate cake
depending on the alteration of the ingredients and chocolate flavoring. The intensity of chocolate is a leading factor in chocolate cakes, especially for devil's food cake. The versatility of chocolate cake has made it a favorite in many homes. See bottom of page for some great chocolate cake recipes.

While the term chocolate cake can be applied to most cakes made with varying amounts of chocolate or cocoa, the most common chocolate cake in the United States is a butter cake. A European chocolate Génoise Cake gives a sponge texture with minimal amounts of fat. [Flourless chocolate cake] is also a popular type, though denser than most cakes. Red velvet cake is also considered a chocolate cake, though it has been adapted without the inclusion of chocolate.

Origin of this Day:
Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day. This holiday is referred to as a "National" day as all food holidays are. However, we did not find any congressional records or presidential proclamations for this day. Even though we didn't, this is still a holiday to celebrate.

This holiday has been celebrated for several years and many websites discuss Chocolate Cake Day and how it can be celebrated. This observance is also mentioned on greeting card sites and calendar sites as well.

How can this Holiday be celebrated?

 • Host a Chocolate Cake Party!
Everybody loves parties so have a bit of fun by having a cake get-together and enjoy a slice of cake. You can bake it fresh or buy it. A great idea is to serve cold cherries and whipped cream for topping. Cherry and chocolate pairs great together. It's amazing how something so simple can be such a great excuse for a get-together with friends. "Cake socials" are pretty easy to do but we do have a few Party Planning Tips that may give you some new ideas. • see types of parties / Chocolate Cake Recipes /

Invite your friends and family over for cake and coffee. A simple get together sharing chocolate cake is just perfect. Speaking of perfect... sharing the love of people is just as tasty as the chocolate cake itself.

"Ingredients vary depending on the recipe but usually include a combination of eggs, sugar, cocoa powder, chocolate, butter or oil, salt, and baking soda. Water or milk is also used. Other additions and variations may include melted chocolate, sour cream, buttermilk, fruit juices, or syrups. Bakers use vanilla extracts, liqueurs, or flavored liquids like coffee to bring out different properties in the chocolate flavor. A variety of toppings, icings and glazes can also be used, as well as spices.

Traditional approaches to chocolate cake are still popular and chocolate cake is also a basis for other cake varieties such as Black Forest Cake and German Chocolate Cake, which includes coconut, pecans, caramelized cream, and chocolate cake."
