Cookie Cutter Shaped Sandwiches by: gone-ta-pott.com
Little tea sandwiches cut with cookie cutters are very popular at baby showers and childrens tea parties. They are also popular at theme tea parties and garden parties.
A few great examples are:
- Baby Showers: ducks, rattles - You can make a closed sandwich or an open sandwich either one. Baby ducks are a favorite for an open sandwich that is spread with a yellow sandwich spread.
- Garden Teas: A garden tea is held outside in the garden so it's not unusual to see tea sandwiches cut into flower shapes at all. Some garden parties even play a game by trying to guess what type of flower the sandwich represents. Even squirrels show up at garden teas as well.
- Childrens Tea Parties: Children love all fun sandwich shapes! You really can't go wrong in a childs eye. Little girls like butterflies, bears and flowers. All of these are easy cutters to find too.
- Tea before a card party: This one will not suprise you at all. Cut tea sandwiches in the shape of hearts, diamonds, spades etc.
Sandwich Bread wikipedia
"The bread is traditionally white, thinly sliced, and buttered." (no matter what the filling is) "The bread crust is cut away cleanly from the sandwich after the sandwich has been prepared but before serving." "Modern bread variations might include wheat, pumpernickel, sour dough or rye bread."
Sandwich Tips:
- Freezing the bread before cutting/ cutting cold bread is much easier.
- Spread filling while sandwich is still stiff from being froze (slightly thowing out) it makes for easier handling.
- The butter of choice is usually Unsalted butter. Butter should be at room temperature before spreading / less of a chance for bread tearing.
- To cut down on sandwiches becoming limp and soggy, spread the butter to the edge of the bread.
- Slice tea sandwiches in small servings. Decorative shapes can be made with cookie cutters.
Colored Breads by: Pam Svoboda
Colored homemade bread is very popular for little girls tea parties and usually favor pinks and blues. Garden Teas are popular with colored breads in different shades of green with a green herb sprig atop each one. If a sandwich is made with edible flowers then it's popular to color the bread to match the color of the edible flower that is being used. A great example of this is a open face sandwich made with pink bread topped with a decorative swarl of cream cheese that's topped with pink edible rose pedals. Green, green and more green sandwiches are even a favorite for St. Patrick's Day tea parties as well.
Sandwich Filling
"Fillings are light, and are "dainty" or "delicate" in proportion to the amount of bread." "Spreads might include cream cheese or mayonnaise mixtures, and the sandwiches often feature fresh vegetables such as radishes, cucumber, asparagus, or watercress." "The cucumber tea sandwich in particular is considered the quintessential tea sandwich." "Other popular tea sandwich fillings include pimento cheese, smoked salmon, fruit jam, curried chicken, and egg salad."
