Songkran: "The Thai New Year is celebrated every year from April 13 to April 15. It coincides with the New Year of many calendars of South and Southeast Asia. "The date of the festival was originally set by astrological calculation, but it is now fixed. If these days fall on a weekend, the missed days off are taken on the weekdays immediately following. If they fall in the middle of the week, many Thai take off from the previous Friday until the following Monday."

"The most obvious celebration of Songkran is the throwing of water. People roam the streets with containers of water or water guns, or post themselves at the side of roads with a garden hose and drench each other and passersby."

Which holiday in April is known for throwing water?
Thais roam the streets with containers of water or water guns (sometimes mixed with mentholated talc), or post themselves at the side of roads with a garden hose and drench each other and passersby. This, however, was not always the main activity of this festival.  "Songkran"

Did You Know?
"In China the symbolic ploughing of the earth by the emperor and princes of the blood takes place in their third month, which frequently corresponds to our April. The Finnish called this month Huhtikuu, or 'Burnwood Month', when the wood for beat and burn clearing of farmland was felled."

Did You Know?
We have a holiday that celebrates "Marijuna??  This holiday is celebrated all over the world and is known as International Medical Marijuana Day.  It's celebrated every year on April 20 and is also know as 420.  "April 20 ("4/20" in U.S. date notation) has evolved into a counterculture holiday, where people gather to celebrate and consume cannabis. This observance is set to honor "medical marijuana" -  In some locations this celebration coincides with Earth Week. At events in the U.S., it is common to hear about Abraham Lincoln, one of many American politicians known for past use of cannabis, who wrote that one of his "favorite things" was "smoking a pipe of sweet hemp". Some events may have a political nature to them, advocating for the decriminalization of non-medical cannabis in the United States.

Starting Out the month:
April 1st get's the ball rolling with April Fool's Day. Wikipedia says "The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, family members, enemies, and neighbors, or sending them on a fool's errand, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible." Yes on this day we all take pride in embarrassing our loved ones.

During April we are also taught the importance of Being Kind to Spiders, how to scoop the poop and even how to wear tweed in celebration of tweed day. We learn all about nose picking and how to blame someone else too. Why we even learn how to relax a bit by wearing our pj's to work.

Walpurgis Night
celebrated April 30th
"Bonfires were built to keep away the dead and chaotic spirits that were then widely believed to walk among the living. This is followed by the return of light and the sun as celebrated during May Day, although bonfires and witches are more closely associated with Easter (especially in Ostrobothnia, Finland) and bonfires alone with midsummer in the rest of Finland.

In Estonia, Volbriöö is celebrated throughout the night of April 30 and into the early hours of May 1, where May 1 is a public holiday called "Spring Day" (Kevadpüha). Volbriöö is an important and widespread celebration of the arrival of Spring in the country. Influenced by German culture, the night originally stood for the gathering and meeting of witches. Modernly people still dress up as witches to wander the streets in a carnival-like mood.
